Faber Music Ltd is delighted to wish Morten Lauridsen a very Happy 80th Birthday!

We are proud to have had a publishing relationship with Morten since the publication of our edition of his best-selling choral octavo O Magnum Mysterium in 2002.

We have since gone onto produce numerous other Faber Music editions of his music, including all his major choral compositions (Lux aeternaNocturnesMadrigali and Les Chansons des Roses), as well as the acclaimed brass band arrangement of O Magnum Mysterium

2023 will see the first publication of our edition of his latest work, Ave Verum Corpus (for SATB choir and strings, or organ), which premiered in the USA in 2022 and receives its UK premiere later this year.

In honour of his 80th birthday on 27 February 2023, Michael Stillwater’s award-winning documentary film, Shining Night: A Portrait of Composer Morten Lauridsen, may be streamed free from now until March 1.

Exploring the relationship of art, nature, and spirituality, Shining Night reveals the composer through the lens of his love for the natural world together with his passion for music and poetry, interwoven with commentaries from composers, conductors, singers, and friends.

Filmed between 2010-2011 in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Aberdeen, Scotland, and Waldron Island, the documentary conveys the richness and breadth of the award-winning composer’s life, with a soundtrack featuring many of his cherished works.

Other recent works include three adaptations of his choral works for US violinist, Anne Akiko Myers.  A violin and orchestra version of O Magnum Mysterium is recorded on her Avie Records album, ‘Mirror in Mirror’, with the Philharmonia Orchestra and Kristjan Järvi. And her 2022 release ‘Shining Night’, includes violin and piano versions of both Dirait-On (from Les Chansons des Roses) and Sure on This Shining Night (from Nocturnes).
