In a recorded recital, violin virtuoso Carolin Widmann presents a programme which transcends the centuries with works by Julian Anderson, George Benjamin, Salvatore Sciarrino, Hildegard von Bingen, Bach, and Telemann. The performance is part of Louth Contemporary Music Society’s online events.
The title of the recital, ‘Another Prayer’, refers to the violin work of the same name, written by the composer for this particular violinist. Another Prayer is partly based on Anderson’s earlier violin piece, Prayer, but with special alterations and microtonal harmonies designed specifically to compliment the new instrument. Anderson’s music captures a more energetic, exalting meaning to ‘prayer’.
The Benjamin work is Three Miniatures for Solo Violin – a short collection of highly characterful pieces which Widmann has played widely, in seven countries since 2004.
