Briefly It Enters was Jessica Curry’s second commission as the London Oriana Choir’s five15 Composer-in-Residence (2018-19). It was premiered by the choir and their Music Director, Dominic Ellis-Peckham, together with the Rosewood Sinfonia, in St Clement Danes Church, London on 16 March 2019.
It sets a poem by American poet and translator Jane Kenyon who published four collections of her poetry and translated twenty poems by Anna Akhmatova, from Russian. Kenyon was New Hampshire’s poet laureate when she died from leukaemia in 1995.
Briefly It Enters lasts 10 minutes and is scored for four-part SATB chorus, piano and 10-player percussion ensemble, and was performed alongside Carl Orff's reduced version of Carmina Burana.
