A piece commissioned by The Voices Foundation to mark the 50th Anniversary of V-E Day. First performed by the Voices Foundation at St. John's Smith Square, London in 1995, conducted by Suzi Digby.

It alternates sections of slow chordal SATB writing with lilting dance patterns. The composer felt strongly that in commemorating V-E Day the sentiments were complicated, mixed ones for people living in another time. He therefore chose more than one text in an attempt to juxtapose the different elements and emotions. He uses Shakespeare's words from Henry V 's address to his troops before the Battle of Agincourt and the poem They Were Not Here written by a young man killed in action before the end of World War II. The text is particularly poignant and challenging.
