The score to …upon one note by Oliver Knussen.

…upon one note was composed for the Aldeburgh Festival in 1995 (the tercentenary of Henry Purcell’s death). This 3-minute piece for violin, clarinet, cello and piano was written as part of the triptych ‘A Purcell Garland’ alongside pieces by George Benjamin and Colin Matthews. Knussen’s free realisation of Purcell’s viol work Fantasia upon One Note is a snapshot of the composer’s imaginative use of colour and texture. This score includes an optional additional part for viola, which plays the ‘one note’ of the title.
