Jeremy Birchall is a composer, instrumentalist and producer working in TV, advertising and dance.
Jeremy’s work in dance includes collaborations with award-winning choreographer Stina Quagebeur. Together, they’ve created Nostalgia, for Northern Ballet at the Royal Opera House, and Catching Colour, for English National Ballet.
His score for the Joffrey Ballet’s Hungry Ghosts was hailed as “absolute perfection: alternately discordant and mellifluous; simultaneously strident and harmonic” and the production received a four star review from the Chicago Tribune. Hungry Ghosts had its premiere at the Lyric Opera of Chicago in February 2024. The score for his and Stina’s latest collaboration Everything InBetween was released at the end of 2024 as an original soundtrack. The ballet was commissioned by BalletX, Philadelphia and first performed in July 2024. The neo-classical, minimalist score captures the emotional intimacy of the dancers, reflecting the subtle complexities of their relationship.
Liquid Life, a ballet made with choreographer Andrew McNicol is due to be premiered in London in April 2025. He is currently working on a new commission for Ballett am Rhein in Dusseldorf for March 2026.
His extensive television portfolio includes scores for a range of dramas, documentaries, and factual programming, including Ripper Street (BBC/Amazon), Fortress Britain (Channel 4), Elizabeth is Missing (BBC), Millie Inbetween (CBBC), Britain’s Most Historic Towns (Channel 4), The Storming of the Capitol (BBC), and the theme for global versions of Survivor (Banijay). Jeremy also co-wrote the score for two 1-hour specials and a 10-part series of the teen drama Free Rein for Netflix and worked as an orchestrator on An Inspector Calls (BBC) and Downton Abbey.
In advertising, Jeremy has worked on major campaigns for brands such as Sky, Barclays, M&S, Amazon Alexa, Lenor, Morrisons, Vodafone, Betfair, BMW, VW, Johnson's, Vets4Pets, Aunt Bessie's and Betty Crocker. He frequently works with Native, SixtyFour Music, BMG, Twenty Below, DLMDD and Adelphoi Music.
Known for his dynamic, narrative-driven scores, Jeremy’s music does more than accompany a story, it enhances it. His idiomatic orchestral and instrumental scores ensure that every note and texture plays an essential role in unfolding the narrative
