John Woolrich’s Pianobook IX is a set of miniatures composed 2000-2001; performed together its six movements last 10 minutes. It alternates more rapid and percussive movements with more lyrical, tender interludes, closing with the delicacy of ‘Wisp’. The pieces received premiere performances from eminent pianists, including Joanna MacGregor, Stephen Gutman, and Thomas Adès.

“…these tiny pieces were fully-formed and explored a specific mood or idea to the full within their limited span.”
